6 Ways to Improve Your Newsletter Open Rate

Not everyone will open every newsletter you send them. Still, here are six ways to improve your newsletter open rate.

  1. Don’t be a stranger! Make your ‘From’ name easily recognisable by including your name or business name.
  2. Keep your subject lines short, around 35 characters is good.
  3. Leave spam triggers out of subject lines, e.g. all caps, exclamation marks, dollar signs, the word ‘free’, etc.
  4. Provide a text-only option so subscribers can make the choice.
  5. Experiment with using the same subject line each time (e.g. Peter’s of Kensington uses “Monday night newsletter”) or changing it according to the content of the newsletter so that readers will know exactly what will be addressed.
  6. Try a range of different send times/days and measure which one attracts the highest open rate. Use that one, but measure periodically in case your subscriber habits change.
